This course provides practical applications for English including speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Students will improve their facility with the language through discussions, exercises, assignments and presentations. The course offers opportunities to explore various techniques of language learning and teaching, while developing a broader understanding of the cultural context. The goal of this course is to maximize the use of English in all forms through activities designed to improve language skills.
The class meets weekly and each session will include active discussion, presentations, writing and group work. Students are expected to complete an annotated bibliography, participate in an on-line forum, give prepared talks, and present a panel discussion.
Assessment of student work is based on a 100 point scale with the following activities: Class participation 20 Forum entries 16 Panel Discussion 30 Annotated bibliography 26 Prepared talks 9 Total maximum 100 points Minimum achievement of 70% is required to sit the semester exam. Minimum passing grade for the exam is 70%.
