The objectives of the course Academic Writing are to familiarise students with the methodology of science, to introduce them to the formal written style and its genres, to enhance their ability to use English appropriately in writing for academic purposes and to expand and practise the vocabulary and grammar of Academic English.

In this course you will get acquainted with the basics of testing online, i. e. testing available on the Internet as well with testing in a LMS.

The seminar course in stylistics focuses on the identification of the the distinctive features of English functional styles on the basis of text analysis of specimens of the administrative style (forms, legal English, the language of diplomacy), publicism (public speaking, advertising, newspaper writing), scientific prose style, the language of conversation and stylized dialogue.

A practical language course aimed at enhancing professional skills for future teachers of English, particularly classroom language and academic skills necessary for their personal growth.

Students will have reached a solid C1 level by now, they have worked on developing all four skills, have analysed the language for teaching purposes and now should be ready to use it in the classroom without any problems. However, as future teachers they will have to develop further professionally. They will have to attend seminars, conferences, or networking events. They will also have to read professional journals and methodology books. This course then aims to prepare the trainees for their further professional development in terms of their language needs. They will develop both receptive and productive skills focussed on relevant topics and issues.

The following areas/topics will be covered throughout the term: Listening - listening to lectures, extracting relevant info, summarizing. Reading - methodology literature, reading for gist, extracting relevant info from methodology books. Speaking - sharing experience and info, explaining professional problems, asking for / giving advice, giving conference presentations. Writing - description of a successful lesson, project proposal, essay on a methodological topic. Topics - talking about lessons, relationships, teacher development, job satisfaction.

The course objective is to work on basic teaching skills and deal with methodological problems most of the teachers come across during their teaching practice.

The main focus of the subject is on some practical aspects of teaching language mainly from the point of view of contents. Seminars are going to deal with such problems as how to integrate literature and culture into language teaching or how to apply CLIL.

The aim of this course is to provide students with a means for developing and extending their use of English with particular emphasis on English related to teaching. It focuses on the English needed in the classroom, for studying the EFL teaching and learning, for participating in teacher development and teacher-training courses, conferences, workshops etc. The framework of the course is based upon a book called "English for the Teacher" (see Literature below), which is a language improvement course for teachers of English as a Foreign Language piloted successfully in various parts of the world with a range of different teachers.
